Evan Yee

Evan Desmond Yee is a contemporary artist working out of his studio in Brooklyn. His introduction to the arts was through representational painting and, over time, took an interest in sculpture. Yee has showed different stages of his work in multiple galleries in New York City and the Hamptons. Now, Yee has diversified his craft in a variety of materials. Creating objects that imitate new technology and advertising, Yee still claims he works representationally, but in the semiotics of popular visual culture and symbols.

Yee’s most recent project is called “The App Store.” Originally created for the Parrish Art Museum in Watermill, The App Store was also shown in Chelsea in the Spring of 2015. There, Yee imitated the aesthetic of Apple and other modern tech moguls to observe perceptive changes in the way we understand our world relative to ourselves. This new work asks the big questions about the future and us.
